ABOUT THE VIRUS

Coming soon to an e-mail Inbox near you, Fizzer, a new mass mailing

worm, has spread rapidly from Asia to Europe and now to the Americas.

Technically known as W32/Fizzer@MM, the new worm spreads both via

e-mail and the Kazaa, peer-to-peer file sharing network. If your

machine becomes infected, this dangerous worm can disable your

anti-virus software, install a number of Trojans, and even update its

own code automatically via the Web. Warn your users to be on the

lookout for Fizzer to ensure the worm fizzles out.

Normal precautions prevail May 12, 2003

The worm is detected by the usual antivirus packages - provided that the definitions are updated on a regular basis. At least daily, that is...

Users adhering to the usual safety precautions (be suspicious with email from unknown sources, never execute an attachment from unknown sources, disable the \'Preview\' window in Outlook / Outlook Express, update your virus definitions...) shouldn\'t have a problem.

Good luck ever

For those of you running Norton AntiVirus, the instructions (including detection and removal) are here.

Those using other antivirus software should check on their supplier\'s web site.
