Given the number of soundtrack themes posted in the "favourite film scenes" thread, I've decided to open a dedicated thread for all those interested. Hopefully these will make for some nice background music while you're clicking away!

Just a couple to get it rolling:

Cavatina, by Stanley Myers, perf. by John Williams (from The Deer Hunter, Michael Cimino, 1978)

Gabriel's Oboe, by Ennio Morricone (from The Mission, Roland Joffé, 1986)
Extended version (5:15):
(Apols, been unable to identify the perfing orchestra).

You are the worst!!!! Oct 15, 2008

I tried so hard to resist your "favorite scenes" thread! But I can't resist this...

Yes, "The Mission", what a wonderful movie, specially with us at home being such Jesuit fans. And the music is amazing.

Here is the tango "Por una cabeza" in Scent of a Woman, with Al Pacino.

From Les Choristes:

Woody Allen puts amazing themes in all his movies, I'll try to find some.

Thank you!!!!

Mixes Oct 15, 2008

Hola Álvaroicon_smile.gif

Time for my procrastination/fun break.... As Lucía commented, this is too tempting.

I am definitely a movie soundtrack addict (oh no, another hobby addiction!), because I got all these CDs from various movies, so what I like to do is to mix them in my own way.

I got quite a few mixes, but below's one, for you to get an idea (mostly old movies).

I do tend to like French instrumental soundtrack music composers a lot: for example, Yann Tiersen, who composed the soundtrack of a more recent movie, Amélie, or Michel Legrand (older French movies).

\Dooley Wilson - As Time Goes By - (with voice clip from the movie)
\Max Steiner - Gone With The Wind Theme
\Nino Rota - Amarcord
\Nino Rota - Waltz (La Dolce Vita)
\Scott Joplin - The Entertainer (The Sting)
\Cab Calloway - Minnie The Moocher (Cotton Club)
\Rita Hayworth - Put The Blame On Mame (Gilda)
\Louis Armstrong - Hello Dolly
\Liza Minnelli - Maybe This Time (Cabaret)
\Marlene Dietrich - Lili Marlene (original version by Marlene Dietrich, has been used in various movies)
\Marilyn Monroe - I Wanna Be Loved By You (Some Like It Hot)
\Judy Garland - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (The Wizard of Oz)
\Gene Kelly - Singing In The Rain
\Charlie Chaplin - Limelight (Theme)
\Nino Rota - The Godfather I (Main Theme)
\Mikos Theodorakis - Zorba's Dance (Zorba the Greek)
\Jerry Bock - Topol - If I Were a Rich Man (Fiddler on the Roof)
\Michel Legrand & Itzak Perlman - I Will Wait For You (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg)
\Kronos Quartet & Philip Glass - The Drawing Room (Dracula)
\John Barry - Out of Africa - Main Theme
\Philippe Sarde - Les choses de la vie (main theme)
\Michael Nyman - The Piano
\Ennio Morricone - Theme From The Mission
\Popol Vuh - Main Theme (Aguirre)
\Angelo Badalamenti - City of the Lost Children-Brain's Bday

Indian rap Oct 15, 2008

This is kind of obscure, but I loved the music from the film "Outsourced," especially the Indian rap music by the Danish-Indian duo Bombay Rockers.

There are tons of others I love, but can't think of them at the moment.icon_smile.gif

Whole soundtracks Oct 15, 2008

Difficult to choose a single theme from:

Vangelis - Blade Runner,
John Barry - Out Of Africa.

Good excuse to listen to them right now!icon_wink.gif

Whole Soundtracks Oct 15, 2008

Like Lucia, I tried to resist on the previous movie thread, but I can't pass on this one.
I have a couple of favorite soundtracks: Forrest Gump and The Wizard of Oz (the Original one with Judy Garland). In the former, I love the songs related to the different times lived by FG (the 60ies, 70ies and of course the most famous song where the feather is flying, and the final theme after Jenny dies....I always tear up...).
The Wizard of Oz has been in my life since I was a kid, it's my favorite tale and one of my fave movies, I love everything in it. My favourite song apart from the beautiful "Over the Rainbow" (that always gives me goose bumps, it's a timeless song) is "We're off to see the Wizard" (...the wonderful Wizard of OOOOOz, because, because, because, becaaaaaaaaaaaause, because of the wonderful things he does!).

Two polar opposites Oct 15, 2008

"The Children of Sanchez" composed and performed by Chuck Mangione; and
"The Eddy Duchin Story" performed by Carmen Cavallaro.

Special mention to Henry Mancini for "The Pink Panther Theme" and "Peter Gunn".

Ooh, just remembered another one... Oct 15, 2008

The sound track from "Black Orpheus," by Tom Jobim and Luíz Bonfá.

My all-time favorite film, and the reason I moved to Brazil!

Just a few of them Oct 15, 2008

The Mission
Blade Runner
Das Boot
These are great films too.

And in a film I don't like at all, Eyes Wide Shut, a grate theme in a great scene: Masked Ball (Backwards Priests from Yocelyn Pook)
