Hello all,

I will be in the Montreal area next month, and would like to rent a car in advance for use during my stay there.

Would anyone be able to recommend a car rental agency in Montreal? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Merci bien!

Hi, Susana!

Before buying our car, we always rented from Budget. They offer good prices in comparison with the rest. You also have Discount, which has good prices, too.

I live in the Montreal area, so if there is anything you need, do not hesitate to contact me!

Try Enterprise Car Rental Jul 10, 2003

I found by far the best rates are offered by Car Rental Enterprise. Beats Budget almost everytime. The smallest car is $207.04 CAD a week (tax included, but not insurance). Full size is $333.56 CAD with three sizes available in between. You can reserve online at http://www.enterprise.com. Only problem sometimes: they are closed on Sundays and close early on Saturday.

Good luck,

Christian

Hi Susana,

My boyfriend and I have just booked a car for our trip to the West Coast in September. Here are the companies we got quotes from online:

Budget (http://www.budget.com)

Alamo (where we rented) (http://www.alamo.com)

Discount (http://www.discountcar.com)

Thrifty (http://www.thrifty.com)

Enterprise (Christian gave the address already)

Avis (http://www.avis.com)

ViaRoute (I think this one is based in Quebec only) (http://www.viaroute.com)

We checked quotes over a 5-day period, and we found that the price went up the closer it got to the date, so book as early as you can for the best price!

Also, if you're planning on taking the car to the US, check with the company to make sure that it is possible. Some rental agencies have restrictions on which states you can go to. (When we wanted to book our car yesterday, we found the lowest price at Discount in Vancouver. Our plan is to drive down to Washington, Oregon and California. I called Discount to find out whether we can take the car into those 3 states, and we were told that we couldn't take it to California. We ended up going with the second lowest rate (but no restrictions)).

Have a nice time in Montreal!

HTH,

Erika

P.S. I agree with Maria - if you're going to be in the city, you won't need a car. Public transportation is excellent and inexpensive and goes all over town. You'll only need a car if you're going out of Montreal.
