I've just had a radio programme on in the background, and it mentioned (what I thought was an interesting snippet) that originally lloyds Bank in Britain was set up in the 19th century as 'the drovers' bank', to service the 'drovers' or long distance herdsman who herded cattle from the Welsh mountains, where they were reared, to London and other parts of England. The drovers, and the owners of the cattle they were conveying, feared that the money they were carrying might be stolen by robbers, footpads and highwaymen (or that the occasional unscrupulous drover might vanish)....
