Have a look at this site:
http://savethewords.org/
You can adopt a word by signing a declaration saying that you "hereby promise to use this word, in conversation and correspondence, as frequently as possible to the very best of your ability".
Nice!
Also check the "spread the word" section.
Enjoy,

I have adopted one already.
Personally, I hope a *MYRIANDER* army of translators start using these lost words again. We should start an equivalent initiative with our enormously rich vocabulary in Spanish, endangered by our increasingly standardised way of life!!

This is nice, but I would just as much like to see a "Kill the words" site.
I would gladly see bottom sludge like "geographies", "empowerment" or "specialism" go away and never come back as long as I live.
Best,

There are some words that I like to use as much as possible, so am listing them in the hope that they can be saved or revived.
survene = come as an addition to, to ensue
indeed
somewhat
henceforth
lest
erstwhile
albeit
peradventure
I am sure that I have forgotten some, so will present a new list soon. | |

Nice site, and great little list, Paul.

(Never heard that last one, I have to admit - had to look it up: perhaps, perchance)
What I find upsetting is that in this age of SMS txtspk, which ppl think z gr8 bcz it keeps evrythng short, what they don't realise is that some of these endangered words existed for a reason, they were unique, concise and expressive, and that we now often need several words to replace them, and even these are sometimes inadequate (see: lest - for fear that) | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Off topic: Save the words!
