Great anniversary May 4, 2009

In the early 1980s I was in a conference with some representatives of a neutral European country. During the course of the meeting, I predicted that East and West Germany would be reunited within our lifetimes. They argued strenuously, emotionally, and stubbornly that I was wrong; and that reunification was impossible. I was very pleased to see my prediction come to pass before I passed on, and I am overjoyed now that so much progress has been made in 20 short years.

Without blood-shed May 5, 2009

The miracle was, that everything happened without a shot been fired. Re-unification was inevitable once the Soviet Union would give up, but I expected the hard-liners to put up more resistance.
Let's not forget what happened before the "Fall of the Wall": free elections in Poland and opening of the frontier between Hungary and Austria.

Regards
Heinrich
