Estimates vary Aug 21, 2003

"by the end of 2006 the worldwide human translation market will account for $5.7 billion, and the machine translation for $117 million. The software and web localization markets will account for $3.5 billion and $3 billion, respectively."

Take those figures with a grain of salt. As early as in 1999, an ATA President was saying: "Translation in the U.S. today is, according to industry analysts, a $7 billion industry, part of a global commerce worth between $11 and $18 billion." www.atanet.org/chronicle/president_message_1999.htm

It is estimated that the world translation market is growing by 15 to 25% annually and will reach $7 billion by the year 2000.
