Although I enjoy my job as a freelance translator, I often find myself bored when working. I guess it's the solitude of working from home and the lack of casual communication.

I remember when I used to work for a software company in London (as a CS rep), a lot of the software engineers would have IRC applications running and be chatting with other professionals/friends from around the world.

I was thinking perhaps translators would be interested in joining a chat channel.

Here are the details if you would like to join:

Server: irc.foonetic.net
Channel: Translators

That's why I cannot join you in the chat. Chatting too much was damaging for me 10 years ago, and I haven't chatted since then. I must keep far from it!

I think this is a very good idea nevertheless! Good luck!

It would be great! Jul 31, 2009

I'll have a look and I'd love to join!

I also think Proz.com should have their own chat room...

though it would probably be dangerously distracting for some, including myself, as Tomas pointed out... Maybe in between jobs...

Thanks Lutz!

So am I, but I don't mind chatting now and then.

A chat channel has been proposed for ProZ.com a few times. I wonder how tolerant the moderators would be if a group of IRC'ers were to promote their channel (even a #prozians channel) every now and then (e.g. by answering a query by saying "Feel free to ask me in the chat channel" or suchlike).
