A group has just been set up on Facebook to be available for any language needs in the Haiti crisis: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=245649094887

If you are a translator or interpreter, please join and invite all your translator and interpreter friends and students. We will be posting regular updates on how you can help.

If anyone finds out a way we can help directly as interpreters or translators, don't hesitate to post on Facebook or on this thread.

And if you know of an organization that needs interpreters, over the phone or on the ground, encourage them to join and post on the wall.

Hello all,

If I were you, I wouldn't write my email address on a public forum: you could get spams...

Stéphanie

Thank you all, will keep you posted Jan 15, 2010

Thank you all who have registered either on Facebook or provided your information here. It is good to have this information available.

I have made known to various agencies the fact that we have this group of available language professionals. I intend to contact the Governor General of Canada's office (she is Haitian and very involved in providing aid to Haiti) to let her know of our availability. If anyone knows of agencies that might need help, either in phone interpretation or onsite, please post it here and/or on Facebook.

The IMIA let me know that Creole, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese interpreters and translators will be most in need. Appropriate discussion groups have been set up on facebook for your to present yourselves in those pairs. The link to the Facebook group again is: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=245649094887

And if you do not use Facebook, feel free to write your language pairs here. Thanks.

To Moderator re: Spam Jan 15, 2010

I realised I should have referred the topic starter to my proz profile after I hit send! BTW, maybe it's a good idea to block personal email addresses from appearing. Feel free to remove mine.

Thanks, anyway.
