I have recently joined Proz.com and I am very pleased the way all the moderators do their jobs and the way this site is managed, I just wondered if it would be possible to have some kind of "chatroom" for members only?
One could easily respond to questions or remarks and if it's too nasty, moderators could always interfere.
What do you think... mind you it is just a suggestion...

Channa means a "chatroom", I believe Dec 22, 2003

Dear Xola:
I don't think that what you are saying is what Channa actually meant. A chatroom is a place specifically planned or built for INSTANT conversations or messages, which makes the whole thing easier and faster.
correct me if Iam wrong Channa...
cheers,
Vir

It has been discussed previously... Dec 22, 2003

see in the Forum archive: http://www.proz.com/topic/6516.

The advantage of the forum structure as opposed to a chatroom is that no important info is lost, you can retrive everything and discussions are organised by topics.
Plus, members have the Instant Messaging system for quick communication.

Best,
Magda

OK, I'm getting serious Dec 22, 2003

Dear Marc,
To what you say above, I can only reply in Turkish, since there's no English or German equivalent of this, but as you are located in Germany, I'm sure you won't have much difficulty at finding a Turkish-speaker to ask what it means: Estagfurullah

Dear Virginia,
I understand that what Channa suggests is a real-time feature, unlike the forums or Kudoz. I was only... joking

And Dear Channa, and everyone else,
I have just read the forum discussions Magda links to, and I have to say that I agree with the colleagues who have commented against the idea of having a chat room in Proz. For a number of reasons: such as loss of information, loss of time, potential vulnerability to hot-headed arguments, and possible additional technical burden for the site staff who have other priorities. At the very least, it's not a priority for us, I believe.

Greetings to all...

Thanks for your reactions Dec 23, 2003

Yes, I meant a chatroom in the sense of instant contact with peers. Thanks for your support Vir!
I am sorry I did not check the previous posted questions about chatrooms, it was just a suggestion.

Cheers and happy holidays
