To start with, as a consumer, you do not "own" any of Microsofts products - If you read the license conditions (which it appears no body ever does) you will find that you have parted with your money so that you may "use" the product in question under very restrained conditions, and that Microsoft has no liability at all to maintain the product if they do not wish too.

If everybody who uses Microsoft's products really read the conditions of use and if there weas a VIABLE alternative, then they would go out of business pretty damn quick!
