Someone have just proposed me to work and use Herbalife's products. I don't know what to do. Can you tell me your experience, if you have, or opinion. Thanks a lot
Nicoletta

Hi Nicoletta Jul 27, 2004

I wouldn't like this discussion to be about their products but about the proposal.

I'd say that it's like proposing to sell Avon products, or any of this kind.
You need to be able to sell and it's not related to translation at all.
Make sure that you don't need to advance money (buying the products that you'll give to clients in order to try) and that you can do that (organize meetings, selling to friends...)

I quickly understood that I wasn't made for that.

Claudia

Attrape-nigaud. (Ask in ProZ the meaning!)

As Thierry says, some kind of racket, except for the owner: here in Mexico, Mr. XXX owns Herbalife, one of the main soccer team, a motion picture production company, one or 2 more soccer teams in South America, and has quiet huge political influence.
Are you going to quit translation to sell useless dried grass for weight loss? You'd better loss weight chassing clients and matching impossible dealines!
Luck.

Agree Jul 27, 2004

In Poland the same. Some "consultants" of Avon have taken the company to the court: unlimited work hours, psychical pressure, no holidays, no rewards, no social insurance, no ...

Don't do it.

multi-level marketing Jul 27, 2004

is another word for that type of outfit.
you'll find a lot of google hits (when google is up and
running again) on MLM.
To make a long story short, they're bad news.

"Herbal" slimming products Jul 28, 2004

I actually can't contribute to the debate on Herbalife, but I do beg people to be wary of so-called "herbal" slimming products, one such is sold here in Mexico that apparently is a herb normally used as rat poison.
Some of the approved pharmaceutical products are pretty dicey too.

Beware of anything that sounds too good to be true, it
usually is! Those so-called slimming products will only
work on your wallet. They can even be bad for you. At this
time, the only safe way to lose weight is good old nutrition+
exercise. Not easy, but safe and guaranteed.
Luck,
Sarah

Dumping of ephedra products on international market Jul 31, 2004

Since ephedra has been banned in the US market, and Herbalife and others are facing numerous lawsuits over untoward side effects, they are now trying to merchandise this dangerous product line outside the US to avoid government oversight. See

Herbalife disaster story Aug 1, 2004

A friend was persuaded to buy $1000 worth of Herbalife products. He then persuaded my equally gullible fiancé to buy one of their protein/ vitamin powders to help me gain weight. It had a very unfortunate effect on my insides. And because it seemed to suppress my appetite, it did nothing to "build me up" as the desperate guy had insisted.

My fiancé was the only person to buy anything off him...
