Hi fellows,

If you want to know about a strange way of interviewing job candidates at a translating agency in Scotland, you'd better have a look at this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4510127.stm

The 28th Sept 2004 must have been a real hot day. Watch out - maybe this could happen to you, too)

Regards
Erik

To be or not to be INTERESTED? May 4, 2005

From the news article:

"The woman was extremely distressed and frightened for her safety. She voiced her disgust and Akbar left and came back this time fully clothed."

What was she waiting for sitting there? For a clothed Akbar to continue the interview with?

She "VOICED her disgust" and sat there waiting for Akbar to come back...

Funnier is his lawyer's comments:

"Aamer Anwar, defending, said: "He totally accepts his guilt. It was a serious abuse of his position as he foolishly believed the complainer was interested in him."

So if one is surely believing the job applicant is INTERESTED IN HIM, he can go full monthy!

Next time you go for a job interview, hide your interests!

You got to love that last line May 4, 2005

"HIS life has been destroyed." [emphasis mine] We're supposed to feel sorry for him. I think I'll go into this corner and sulk now.

Right, why would she just sit there and wait for further developments when she was "extremely distressed, frightened and disgusted"?

Something is definitely missing here, any technical translator can see that!

.. and quote the second part of the sentence: "Akbar tried to restart the interview, but his victim fled and reported the matter to police."

I believe that if this happened to me, I too, would probably sit astonished and paralyzed for a few minutes, before being able to leave the place and decide what to do!
