What do you think of a kind of Proz.com hospitality club. This would create the possibility for members to lodge other members at their homes, provided they consent to certain rules of behaviour.

That sounds like a really nice idea! Dec 7, 2005

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go for a visit to London without going bankrupt on hotel charges?

Keep thinking... maybe a sort of "points for hosting" system should be involved, so that if you have points to spend you could go somewhere and pass on your points to your local host?

Anybody for a visit to sunny Crete?

Dinny

Proz.com Exchange Dec 7, 2005

This feature exist already, although not really well-known, nor heavily used.
In the menu bar see: Community - Exchange

actually Dec 8, 2005

Actually, first it was my idea to include such a feature in proz.com a couple of years ago. I think first I posted a similar thread, sent a support request to the HQ, and a couple of weeks or months later, presto, the functionality was there!

I am not sure though how many people actually take advantage of this...

It doesn't work properly Dec 8, 2005

there are missing features that make the Exchange section difficult to use.
Some ads have been there for years and there's no date, for instance.

Anyway, anybody willing to come to Santiago is welcome.

Claudia

You're welcome... Dec 8, 2005

I can always spare a room in my flat in Kraków, Poland. But you must be a brave one: the place is monster-infested, a monster being a 25 kg Belgian shepherd. His fur is everywhere so black clothes are of no use.

I can top that! Dec 8, 2005

Anyone not allergic to dogs, cats, horses or kids and who would like to spend time around Hamburg/Kiel/Lübeck is welcome to my self-contained cottage in the orchard, with view onto paddock, fields and forest!

Regards,
Kathinka

Great idea.. Dec 8, 2005

I too think that this is a wonderful idea. I´m one of those people who LOVE to go abroad yet I have to turn around every penny (hope that´ll change eventually). At the same time I really enjoy having people around with a different cultural background with whom I can exchange ideas, practice my language skills etc.

I live in beautiful Cologne, Germany, and for anyone who doesn´t need a luxury hotel but cares about a hearty reception instead feel free to contact me:-)

Welcome to Ebeltoft, Denmark too! Dec 9, 2005

We're going to be ten people over Christmas, which is just about capacity, so I hope you have somewhere else to go then

But normally we are just two busy people, so let me know if you need a bed in the new year!

Why then on Proz? Dec 11, 2005

I put this proposal on Proz, because my experience with HC has been that you need to contact a lot of people to find a place. Some of these people meanwhile have moved to an other address, are no longer residing in the country etc...
Give it a try to find a place in London. 5 out of 10 people no longer live at their address, had too many requests....
Tip: try calling people just outside big cities.
The people on Proz are another kind of public...

Good idea. I've made a note of it and we will explore the possibility of implementation.
