May I guess? Bills from your Internet provider and phone company, mostly.

Calculator? Feb 24, 2006

I wonder why so many of you have a calculator on their desk... Don't you trust the one from your PC?

the only thing I *don't* have is a calculator! Feb 24, 2006

It's on my virtual desktop.

On my physical desktop, I have a monitor and speakers for one computer, temporarily retired, plus a laptop.

A 24 x 30" box with a couple dozen CDs, pens, stamps, address labels, defunct cheque books.

Then I also have, surrounding the laptop:

a cookbook and part of another cookbook
two boxes of envelopes
three boxes of stomach medicine which I can't take until the baby is born, but man, I can't wait to be able to take that stuff again (and then I'll be joining the rest of you with your coffees and glasses of beer) - plain water for the moment
a box of tissues
two fat dictionaries
a book on geography
and a scanner
plus my calendar and yesterday's mail

I just did a clean-up about 10 days ago - and I'm about 5 days late with this one...thanks for the reminder

-a copy of my current job
-grocery shopping list
-cell phone
-watch
-calculator, yellow highlighter, Bic pen
-numerous notes (mostly to myself) on odds and ends of paper
-cool bracelet from Argentina that I take off while working (thanks, Andrea)

I use also MS Excel. It's great because you can check all the numbers you've put in and have an instant overview, making easier spotting double inputs etc.

Things on my PC desk... Feb 24, 2006

Gianni Pastore wrote:

...the one where you place your keyboard, Nadia!

OK, then:

Ashtray
Pack of cigarattes
Lighters
Coca Cola Light can (my afternoon drink)
Landline telephone
Cordless telephone and base
Two speakers
speaker control
Pencil holder
web cam
notepaper cube (with an electric toothbrush that needs spares - been sitting there for two months until I find the time to buy the spares_
USB hub
mouse - mouse pad

I guess I am relatively tidy... this desk... because if you had said both... then, I would be in trouble.

But, I recently refurbished my office and put a lot of shelves around, so everthing that was on my desks... is now on the shelves...

My desk... Feb 24, 2006

..is practically empty compared to yours!
I have a pencil, a green pen, and a notebook. A few minutes ago I also had my Oxford-Hachette, but I put it away to tidy up.

Monika, three levels?!! I didn't know such desks existed! Aren't those called small bookcases?

Hi Maria,
I really do not know the exact word. It looks something like this: http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prodBlock.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&prodBlockOID=537466221&expansionOID=-536879593

Mine is a bit different, because it does not have the glass doors on the left side and it does not have the library on the right side. Instead, the computer screen level is an empty space. What I meant by the lower level is both drawers that are on both sides, under the computer screen. The third level (or upper level) has 6 small compartments, similar to the ones shown on the upper front side of this pic. Maybe I used the wrong word for saying that my desktop has three levels, but this is how I would describe it. Of course, I am not a furniture specialist.

Monika

- no hippos out of stone, but kind of Bastet Cat Godess (secretary!)
- a calculator! (more sensuous than Excel! He is called Walther)
- book:Heirloom Vegetables. Shriek I still have to order seeds.

The real thing is much easier to use Feb 24, 2006

Its much easier to use the real thing than any virtual calculator. Excel I use only for complicated calculations and my tax declaration, and always close it to save memory.
