Joyeux birthday, UE !

On 25 MArch 2007 the European Union will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome – the origin of the European integration process. For this occasion, the European Union invited students of art and related disciplines and young design professionals to take part in the competition and design a logo.

The winner is Skrzypczak Szymon from Poland.

(I don't know how to paste and copy a picture in a post, you can see the picture on the EU website. )

In Le Monde, philosopher Barbara Cassin explains why she think that this logo looks like Google's or the sign of a registered trade mark.
"The word "together" might seem a good choice, as it is a symbol of the unity and multiplicity of Europe. But it belongs to one language, English or better said "globish"...
Other languages contribute only as spelling mistakes or interferences (Umlaut, é ...). The multicultural nature is reduced to a deviation from the global standard. "
