Good night (or evening) everybody...

Happy Translating and Merry (Healthy) Nostalgia!

----------------------------------

I found a picture of you,

what hijacked my world that night

to a place in the past

we\'ve been cast out of?

Now we\'re back in the fight

We\'re back on the train

oh, back on the chain gang

A circusmtance beyond our control,

the phone, the TV and the news of the world

got in the house like a pigeon from hell,

threw sand in our eyes and descended like flies,

put us back on the train

oh, back on the chain gang

The powers that be

that force us to live like we do

bring me to my knees

when I see what they\'ve done to you

But I\'ll die as I stand here today

knowing that deep in my heart

they\'ll fall to ruin one day

for making us part

I found a picture of you,

those were the happiest days in my life

Like a break in the battle was your part,

in the wretched life of a lonely heart

Now we\'re back on the train

oh, back on the chain gang

BACK ON THE CHAIN GANG

Sniff.... Dec 11, 2002

Buddy,

you really touched me with that!!!

I still recall the smoky bars, the girls, the dark coats... Oh, God!... and the music!!!

Luckily for me, there is a radio station that only plays that music...

God bless them (and you, too, for making such nice memories come back!!)

See (read) you around.

The Magic Eighties - 't was back then when I got steeped in pop/rock music... Dec 12, 2002

...and to give it a more electronic/dark spin: does anyone remember Anne Clark in her initial phase (\'Our Darkness\'...). Great music it was in these olden days (I was thinking of A.C. just a few days ago, prompted by the recent \'Friday Joke\' thread that turned to anagrams -> \'The Law is an Anagram of Wealth\').

(Of course this doesn\'t mean that there isn\'t good music around nowadays but IMHO you develop a very special feeling toward the period in which you grew up.)

A lady in red.... Dec 13, 2002

I was very very very young but I somehow manage to remember...something.

Like Paul Young singing:

Hey!, if we can solve any problem

Then why do we lose so many tears

Oh, and so you go again

When the leading man appears

Always the same thing

Can\'t you see, we\'ve got everything goin\' on and on and on

Everytime you say \"agree\" you make me feel so fine, so good...

Everytime you go away you take a piece of me with you

Go on and go free, yeah

Maybe you\'re too close to see

I can feel your body move

It doesn\'t mean that much to me

I can\'t go on sayin\' the same thing

Just can\'t you see, we\'ve got everything do you even know you know

Everytime you go away you take a piece of me with you, oh

Everytime you go away you take a piece of me with you

I can\'t go on sayin\' the same thing

\'Cause baby, cancha see, we\'ve got everything goin\' on and on and on

Everytime you go away you take a piece of me with you.....

I also remember:

Ahhhh..... A-Ha....

...\"So needless to say

I\'m odds and ends

But that\'s me stumbling away

Slowly learning that life is OK

Say after me

It\'s no better to be safe than sorry\"....

And a contribution for those born between....er... well:

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN....

I was a little younger than Au back in those days (ooops!!!)

But I fondly remember the music from:

Styx

Duran Duran

The Police & Sting

Genesis & Phil Collins

Eurythmics

Corey Hart

Platinum Blond

Pat Benatar

AC/DC (yup!)

Queen

Wham!

Johnny Hates Jazz

Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine

Richard Marx

Sade

B-52\'s (love \'em!)

Prince

Boy George

.... and so many more

Needless to say that I have a good collection of records (yup the vinyl kind), cassettes and cd\'s.

But it does not stop at the music from the 80\'s, as I enjoy pretty much anything from Rock to Classical music...

It\'s party time folks!

Ahhhhhh Lien, The Cure. Why can't I be you!!! Dec 19, 2002

I still love \'em. I was very much a youngster when they were around & took great delight in copying Robert Smith\'s lipstick.

I\'ve just set my entire office off on a nostalgia trip with the mere mention of them.

A number of them had Howard Jones hairdos in the 80\'s aswell! The mind boggles.

Depeche Mode was also a favourite!

Well, bye for now young guns!

Sara.

Maybe it depends what decade you were born in Dec 20, 2002

Flavio Ferri Benedetti says he was born in 1983 but is a diehard 80s nostalgic.

I was born in 1931 and am a diehard 30s nostalgic - Cole Porter, George & Ira Gershwin, Rodgers & Hart - songs like \"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes\", \"These Foolish Things\",\"Manhattan\"...

(Sorry, but 80s music leaves me cold).

Interesting that Aurora writes about 80s music but heads her comment \"Lady in Red\", a 1930s song title.

Hello Jack

I wonder if Chris de Burgh did a *remake* of that 30\'s song (Lady in Red) - This song was very popular in the 80\'s.

I happened to be in a club in Old Quebec one night wearing red. I was watching this show which was put on by an excellent live soft-rock band - and they dedicated that song to me that night

It was very nice (and the lead singer was very cute!!!)

As for liking the songs of the decade one is born in - I was born in 1965... I do not feel any particular attachment to the 60\'s music (to be honest).

But I used to listen (well, my parents used to listen) to Perry Como, Dean Martin, Ol\' blue eyes... Laurence Welk Show on TV etc. and I do enjoy the music of that era quite a bit.

And let\'s not forget ELVIS (please!!!)

Love me tender...

Lady in Red Dec 20, 2002

Sorry, I now think I was wrong about that, and was thinking of \"Lady Be Good\".
