Since \"someone has to ask the stupid questions\"...

Where is the accent in \'innovative\'? I\'ve heard it pronounced both ways: in a British film, \'innOvative,\' and Webster online pronounces \'innovAtive.\'

Agree with Trudy Feb 8, 2003

Main stress on initial I, secondary stress on A.

I am a Brit myself and I have never heard it pronounced innOvative.

I know I heard it with the 'O' Feb 8, 2003

It was in a TV series about the British Parliament; the actor playing the Home Minister pronounced it \'innOvative.\' That was what intrigued me.

As Spencer says Feb 10, 2003

I stress the first syllable, but it really depends who you\'re working for.
