Tomorrow is March 8.

In Italy, and perhaps in other countries too, there is a celebration of our gender.

Naturally it is an exploited and commercial event, but deep down it has a moving and appreciable core.

So, with no ulterior motive except that of thanking fate for having given me the chance to live this life as a woman and a mother, I would like to offer this virtual embrace to all other women, all over the world, of whatever race and creed and commitment.

So, with no ulterior motive except that of thanking fate for having given me the chance to live this life as a woman and a mother, I would like to offer this virtual embrace to all other women, all over the world, of whatever race and creed and commitment.

Those who struggle each day to feed their children, those who stand up and fight for whatever right they believe in, those who have been mutilated to keep them mute, those who are in the power of the unscrupulous and emerge from the shadows for kerbcrawlers, and for all those who still believe that to be a woman is to have the power.

And in an era where the female image is exploited to sell and to corrupt, I urge all (men and women alike) to teach our daughters that real beauty is not what is on the fashion page or on the catwalk, but it is to have dignity and respect and culture.

Angela

Fully agree Mar 7, 2003

This celebration may have turned commercial (?)but I believe it is a good thing to remember that women have not been and still are not always treated equally (in rights) to men.

Thanks for bringing it up. Best wishes to all of you.

Patricia

Making Peace

A voice from the dark called out,

\"The poets must give us

imagination of peace, to oust the intense, familiar

imagination of disaster. Peace, not only

the absence of war.\"

But peace, like a poem,

is not there ahead of itself,

can\'t be imagined before it is made,

can\'t be known except

in the words of its making,

grammar of justice,

syntax of mutual aid.

A feeling towards it,

dimly sensing a rhythm, is all we have

until we begin to utter its metaphors,

learning them as we speak.

A line of peace might appear

if we restructured the sentence our lives are making,

revoked its reaffirmation of profit and power,

questioned our needs, allowed

long pauses. . . .

A cadence of peace might balance its weight

on that different fulcrum; peace, a presence,

an energy field more intense than war,

might pulse then,

stanza by stanza into the world,

each act of living

one of its words, each word

a vibration of light--facets

of the forming crystal.

Power to independent, committed ... Mar 7, 2003

women all over the world. And a curse on all silicon-enhanced media bimbos and the drooling men who adulate them.

Before Blair, Aznar and the Texan draft-dodger even think about making a moral case for war, perhaps they should reflect on their continuing support for regimes that condone practices such as genital mutilation and \"honour killing\".

Well, uh... Mar 7, 2003

This is all so controversial, I will only meekly add Twain\'s assertion that wherever there is Eve, there is heaven, so I guess she doesn\'t live in B*****d.
