Hello,

I will spend some days in Barcelona this summer therefore I would like to know if you have suggestions for reasonably priced, but clear and safe accomodations, hotels in a central location.
I appreciate your input.

Kathrin

If you want central and relatively safe... Mar 9, 2008

You can't get more "in the thick of things" than the Ramblas. Stick with hotels at the north end, near the Plaça de Catalunya, since the southern part of the Ramblas has a rather higher crime rate (mostly pickpockets and muggers).

Last time I was in BCN I stayed at the Hotel Toledano at 138 Las Ramblas. My recollection is that the rooms were very small, the furniture old, and the bathrooms tiny but clean.

It was fine for my purposes but some people are pickier.

I was in the back section of the hotel (practically a separate building attached by a hallway). This back area is quieter than the rooms that face the Rambla itself.

You can probably find someplace nicer in the same price range, but I suggest staying in that general area.

Another one in Las Ramblas Mar 9, 2008

Old furniture, but spacious and clean rooms, also the staff was very nice and friendly:

I mentioned Pension Dali because you asked for a central location. If entertainment is down below your list, you may want to look elsewhere. I mean, if you are planning to go to bed early and have a rest, the area might be noisy for you. Also, be wary of pickpockets everywhere in Las Ramblas, as Steven also suggests. But I was always there in high season; in other times relatively smaller number of tourists should also mean smaller number of pickpockets

Hostal Goya Mar 10, 2008

Although this place is called a 'hostal', it's more like a hotel, and not too pricey either. The cleaning lady is exceptionally well, clean, arranging everything in its original order. When I went there the girl at reception was called Eva, very nice girl and she gave a few good suggestions for restaurants. Internet access in the hall, you can get rooms with bathrooms, take a look on http://www.hostalgoya.com/... See more

It's not located on Las Ramblas, and I personally think that's a good thing. At night that particular street turns into mayhem, and I remember getting chased by prostitutes when I studied here. Just rather unpleasant stuff. Rambla de Catalunya, a little bit higher up, is much more peaceful, and it's nice just to take a stroll and pop into the many little shops...ah, bliss.

If you need any more info about Barcelona, let me know - I'm working here in-house.

Paul.

Hostal Sofia Mar 10, 2008

http://www.barcelonahotels.es/Spain/Barcelona/hostal-sofia-esp.html

Hostal Sofia is located in the environs of the trains station or Sants.

Very reasonable price, small rooms but clean, good location. It is not something special but it is ok for a night.

Hostal Ramos Mar 10, 2008

Hello Kathrin,

I was in Barcelons just a couple of weeks ago and stayed in the Hostal Ramos, literally just off the Ramblas. It is only a 5 minute walk to the Pl. de Catalunya, the rooms are very large, fully tiled floor, en-suite bathroom, air con, TV, very clean, great location and affordable.

The only downside was that it was quite noisy at night (which doesn't bother me, as I could sleep through a rock concert) but you can get an interior room facing the courtyard

I hope you'll have a great stay, I absolutely loved Barcelona.
