How to translate "pop-up textboxes" in Word?

Dear all,

I don't know the exact name of this but it consists of a small number besides/above a word and when you mouse over it a little textbox will pop up with an explanation or amendment for this word (I hope I've described this well enough for you to understand what I mean).

I've got this several times in a Word doc about some machine, for instance "Adjust oil1 level". The textbox in this case will tell you what sort of oil you have to use for lubrication.

Is there any possibility to copy the box or how can I translate it without learning the text (including all the product numbers!) by heart? For the "normal" text I'm using Wordfast but in this case I would already be content to have the box in another form

Many thanks in advance!

Charlotte

PS: I'm using Word 2000.

footnotes? Sep 30, 2008

Hi, are you sure they are not footnotes? Sometimes they appear at the end of the document but when you mouse over the number of the footnote it appears a sort of textbox... in that case you should translate the footnote and the text will change but you may not be able to do it with Wordfast...

You'll be able to translate this file either with Trados TagEditor, or Swordfish (in the latter case, afer saving this file as DOCX an importing into Swordfish).

@ Claudia,

yes, you are right! I did not think of this (silly me) but now I see that there are indeed footnotes in the original document with the same text as in those pop-ups... I had copied the part of text to be translated from the original into a new doc and there I don't have any "real" footnotes. Thanks a lot for this enlightenment!

@ Piotr: Thank you for your hints, at the moment I have only Wordfast. Those footnotes are not so long (and there are only a few of them) so I can translate them without any CAT - now that I don't have to remember the text by heart
