Is it possible to remove pesky smart tags selectively?

Office 2003, Windows XP Pro.

Smart tags are useful sometimes, but sometimes they are downright annoying, such as when you write

[...] 1997 in the country was a good year [...]

I get the measure conversion tag for "1997 in" (as in inches)

Another case is the article "a" which Word interprets as acres when the article appears after a number.

Is it possible to remove these smart tags permanently, not just from a single document in a given session (which I know how to do), but without having to disable the measures tags completely?

TIA,
Pawel Skalinski

I am aware of this dialogue, but if I uncheck the "measures" option, I get rid of all measures, which I do not want to do.

And yes - "smart" tags, not "intelligent" - I use the Polish version of Word.
