Hello,

I have a text where I have to replace the paragraph mark for spaces. I had no problem until half part of the document, but now, everytime I replace the ^p for the spaces, the texts is align to the right automatically. It's very annoying because I have to manually align it back to the left.

Does anybody know what this could be happening? I use MS-Office 2003.

Thanks,

Claudia

not sure what you mean... Mar 2, 2006

Are you inserting paragraph marks in place of spaces, or inserting spaces in place of paragraph marks?

In any case, the paragraph formatting attributes of a paragraph are 'attached' to its paragraph mark, so if you copy a paragraph mark from one paragraph and paste it somewhere else, the newly created paragraph will have the same paragraph formatting as the original (source) paragraph.

If you delete a paragraph mark, the resulting paragraph (combination of the paragraph whose p. mark was deled and the next paragraph) assumes the paragraph formatting of the paragraph with the deleted paragraph mark (that sounds illogical, but that's how it works).

If you have page breaks or section breaks in the document, the behaviour when an adjacent paragraph mark is removed can be unpredictable (or at least unexpected)

I'm not sure exactly what happens to paragraph formatting when Find & Replace is used to insert or delete paragraph marks in text with a variety of paragraph formatting. (especially in case of inserting paragraph marks).

I'm inserting spaces in place of paragraph marks.

I restarted Word and the problem was gone. I guess I should've done that before posting the question.

Thanks
