I'd like to have, first of all a larger area of work, preferably a room for me only, not to have to jump my baby's toys.
And I'd like a new computer, since this one sometimes becomes "crazy".
And I'd like more time and more money to attend a number of masters, conferences and training courses throughout the world. There are so many and so interesting ones!
And to do all that, I'd like to have more work, and more money of course. But probably I'd have less time. What a problem!<... See more I'd like to have, first of all a larger area of work, preferably a room for me only, not to have to jump my baby's toys.

I wish I had time to take more time off and do other things than translate. That I felt confident enough with my client relationships that I could take a month off and just -really- not work. But I don't feel that security right now. If I'm not there to take their projects, they'll give them to someone else - who knows if they come back to me once I return?

Hi,
I voted for a brand new PC, but I am quite surprised that only 23% of Proz members voted for more work as the top wish, which is a good sign given the economic context!!

I just got myself a new comfy chair and a new comfy keyboard. They were in my wish list for several months and I got them just a few weeks ago. They weren't cheap, but my wrists have stopped hurting and my back ache is gone! Probably the best investment ever!
Now on the wish list, there's a new computer, which I'll probably get in 2010. But what I'd really like is a new, bigger, nicer office with air conditioning! Actually, I wish I had a laptop to be able to work outside where it's normally sunny and nice. I am currently "trapped" to my standard desk, whereas I could be enjoying the weather.

A shared office with fellow translators is what I've been dreaming of since I started working freelance. At the moment I'm sharing an office with webdesigners and IT specialists, but I would love to share my work space with other freelance translators. I see a large office with desks, a lounge area with a coffee machine and books...

... I need a break, real break. A couple of months wandering around Europe would do just fine at the moment. And all I'd have to do is to translate the menus to my lovely wife.
I love it Down Under, but at present I feel like a bloke in midlife crisis: "I love ya darlin' but I need some space for my own". The Land of Oz is fine, don't let me be misunderstood, but...

In memoriam
Vacation and holidays have been on my wish list for several years. I wish I could take at least 15 days off, with no computer, no phone calls, no e-mails, no blackberry, no rush, no desperate clients.

Being "gainfully employed", I do get regular holidays, but being the only translator in the company and a recent peak in tranlation projects, except for two weeks in the sun, where I could not take a laptop along, I have spent the last couple of family holidays slaving away at the PC why my family was out and about. And now I'm back to nightshifts, doing overtime after the kids are in bed so that we can meet our project deadline. As this involves various tasks/sub-projects, product and customer knowledge, unfortunately no chance to outsource the extra work...
On the other hand, this also provides a kind of job security...
