Ken, your WWA is pretty impressive. To be honest, I don't care what you look like!

Picture & age. Honestly, I do the same, but it's the wrong thing to do.

Picture Dec 5, 2009

If clients are anything like me, I presume the picture is the first thing they notice. I think the eye is naturally more quickly drawn to an image than to text. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's what they base their decision on. A picture may grab my attention, but I will then read what experience someone has, what they have to say about themselves, etc.

But he does look like George Clooney, doesn't he?

Theoretically, the portfolio Dec 6, 2009

A peer once very gently hinted that my photo might not be real Renaissance stuff and they may indeed be right. Still, I'd like to think that my logo helps reassure people.

Are Powwow pictures appropriate, one wonders? Not sure, but different hair colours complement each other, as do different languages.

Maybe submit a poll about it?

Cheers,
Chris

Tag line Dec 6, 2009

I take a quick look at the picture, but I don't really think about it. What gets my attention in terms of how I would work with the person is the tag line.

On the other hand, the absence of a picture is something I notice even more than the content of a picture that's present. It's a big turnoff for me. I also don't care for pictures of pets or babies unless the principal is in the picture too. If the face isn't there, I feel as if I can't communicate.

So, to sum up (I'm thinking about this as I go along): I expect to see a picture, and it opens the door. It's an announcement that the person is present. But that isn't enough to "get my attention."

P.S. Indeed, Ken's photo bears a striking resemblance to George Clooney (wink wink!). I'm wondering if he posted it specially for purposes of this discussion.

One more thing: after reading the tag line, the NEXT thing I look for is years of experience.

my specialities Dec 7, 2009

At least that's what they tell me.

They are either looking for someone with experience with patents and technical documents, or experience with Latin and medieval literature.
Also, I use Across, which is fairly rare as a CAT tool.

Makes my life fairly interesting.
