I guess,

those who say that they have put on weight, have loads of work and are doing their work alongwith no movements and all meals on chair.

those who say they have not put on weight, means they have work, yet they manage to work out and do physical exercises/yoga at gyms, parks, grounds etc.

Enjoy translating and take care!

those like me, who say that they have lost their weight, means that they are working a lot, yet not gaining too much profit.

No, I haven't but that has nothing to do with being a freelancer. For example, if you started working 15 years ago when you were 25, I am pretty sure you will have put on some weight by the age of 40 whether or not you work as a freelancer or not.

I've actually lost some weight.
When I started freelancing 18 years ago, I was 8 kilos heavier than now.

I lost weight because sometimes I literally forget to eat when I am completely tangled up in a job. I always have a huge bottle of water on my desk and should my stomach start to gnarl, reaching out for the bottle is much faster than going over to the fridge. It usually does the trick

On and off: gained a bit, lost a lot without trying, gained more than I wanted to... not necessarily related to work or exercise: in more than 20 years, hormones have had their say too.

I agree with Alban. I started translating when I was 22-23 and I am 44 now. You usually gain a bit of weight as you grow older. I still practice a lot of sports, therefore, in some cases, it has little to do with a sedentary life... though our job is very sedentary.

I've lost weight because now I have time to take the dog for a very long walk before working, and I usually have time for martial arts 3 times per week.

I put on weight during every Winter, and loose again in the Summer. The same procedure every year - freelander or not.

I've gained a little because I stay up late doing my work - after not being able to control interruptions during the day. Short-changing on sleep and staying up late lead to adrenal fatigue and low cortisol levels, which in turn lead to weight gain.

I have put on quite a lot of weight over the past 5 years because of too much work, spending time with the family (when I have time) during the day and then working in the evening and listening to the fridge screaming "eat me" at 1´oclock in the morning. And only sleeping 4 hours a day probably does not help either!
