You can argue on what is ethical, and what is not. Let me put it down in another way, how professional you are.


I agree with Teresa. We should not let our personal biases or preferences color our translations, period. It's not our original text, therefore we have to deliver it faithfully and idiomatically.

The concept of ethicism varies across cultures and countries. For example, what we Americans consider flagrant plagiarism is not too bad in some countries. That should not give us Americans an excuse to act all high and mighty, however.

Elena, I will give your question "how professional you are" the benefit of the doubt and assume that you meant to say that the degree of professionalism is a personal choice?
