A big "yes"! Dec 14, 2013

I’ve loved reading since I was a little girl and I read everything I could get my hands on. This habit stayed with me! I love reading not only fiction and biographies but also newspapers and magazines, which is probably more “frivolous” than books… In fact, I can't fall asleep without reading first!

Yes Dec 14, 2013

Not that I usually have a lot of free time. However, as luck would have it, this weekend I've got no translation work for a change but I haven't got any decent unread books. I was in town yesterday and meant to go to the 2nd hand polyglot bookstore but got sidetracked due to a parking fine. Boohoo.

A massive yes Dec 14, 2013

I love reading and have done for as long as I care to remember. I particularly enjoy being able to immerse myself in foreign language literature and escape to another world. However, since my job involves a lot of reading, I now spend less time reading for pleasure than I otherwise would, since I like to switch to a different media, such as listening to music to unwind.

Absolutely! Dec 14, 2013

I cannot remember a day where I haven't read something! Despite my translation work and being a mum and doing loads of other stuff, I still manage to read on average a book or magazine a day (light reading in English!). plus all the general reading online. I read mostly in English, otherwise I find I start losing vocabulary
There used to be a program on English radio asking what 5 things you would take with you to a desert island. well my five these days would be an Ebook (loaded with as many books and music as possible) with a solar charger, a multi-purpose utility tool, as much nylon thread as I could carry and fish hooks.

I'd love to read if only there was enough free time. The free time that is left after the work is done in the various professions, is usually spend away from any reading material.
There's only time to read when riding on the trains, sometimes even on a bus.

"I would sooner read a timetable or a catalog than nothing at all." Dec 14, 2013

to quote W. Somerset Maugham, and to quote Teresa Borges:

There are several more quotes about reading and books (among other things) on the personal page of my profile, including:

"Read in order to live."
(Gustave Flaubert)

"These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds alive
on the shelves." (Gilbert Highet, writer, 1906-1978)

Of course :-) Dec 14, 2013

I read everyday, when I go to bed at the very least, and then whenever I get the chance. My husband gave me the best gift ever 2 christmases ago, a kindle. Don't know how I managed before
I mostly read in English too...

Enjoy the weekend!

yes yes yes Dec 14, 2013

Long time ago I worked in a bookshop, a huge part of my salary was kept by my boss, since I bought a lot of books!
And now, I read any time I have a spare minute, and when my kids ask for a new book, well I never say no.
Reading is an essential part of living.

NO Dec 14, 2013

I do not have the time for it. I do get my National Geographic that I read occasionally, but other than that, I have a family with two children, my garage with lots of tools in it that need to be used once in a while.

Anything and everything (more or less) Dec 14, 2013

I'm quite likely to look up a word in a dictionary or thesaurus and still be there half an hour later, turning the pages. It's the same with the internet - link here, link there...

I actually have to avoid reading books during the week as I find it so hard to draw myself away from the print, but my kindle is the first thing I reach for on a Saturday and Sunday morning.

One of my pet hates: hairdressers, doctors, accounts, etc who DON'T make (let) me sit in their waiting area for ages.

Yes! Dec 14, 2013

When I have time, I always read something, in Italian, my language, in English and Spanish, especially novels.

good news Dec 14, 2013

It is really great to see that there are people who love reading. Not that I expected different answers from translators However, the reason I made this poll is that I wondered whether you are simply tired of written word after completing translation projects. I sometimes need a break after completing a bigger project to open a book. I hope it is not the end of the discussion.

Always Dec 14, 2013

I am seldom without a book in my hand in my leisure time - I have a fondness for philosophy, travel, science and sea stories, but basically anything which is well written or amusing. How can anyone not like reading books?

Yes! Dec 14, 2013

It's one of my favorite past-times. I'll read just about anything. It helps keep my brain 'churning' and learning. I can fall asleep very easily if my mind isn't occupied.

Preferred Reading material: Local Newspapers (English, Russian, Spanish), Biographies, news magazines, dictionaries, historical and religious literature, etc.
