My current projects will have me working until later today, and then I have nothing scheduled until the 2nd January (a lot of the agencies I work with close up this week), but my regulars know that I'll be available for them as usual, apart from the 24th and the 25th, and if anyone else needs me, I'll do it. Over the years, I've found that occasionally work tends to increase during Christmas (the same happens in August) perhaps because many translators are away on holiday so agencies look for someone to fill the gap in their absence ‒ but, really, who knows?Collapse

Taking some time off Dec 23, 2019

Aren't we in the height of the holidays? I'm busy writing emails and sending cards, wrapping packages, visiting or talking with friends, and taking care of a sick dog.

Just wrapped up a big project. I worked at the weekend to finish it today so I can hit the shops and finish up the present-wrapping this afternoon. Monday is typically pretty quiet for me anyway. I am hoping that tomorrow will be quieter than usual and given that my customers must all be in much the same frame of mind, there's a good chance I'll have a quiet week. I have told a few agencies that I won't be available while my children are visiting.

Could you presume... Dec 23, 2019

Either way round, I hope that the situation suits, and for those who are celebrating festivities, that it is a happy time.

As usual, it's completely unpredictable. This time last year I was busy; right now I have no work.

Busier than usual *and* taking time off Dec 23, 2019

I happen to be booked farther ahead than usual, but it’s not exactly because of a holiday rush. I’m still taking my days off anyway, but unfortunately it won’t be as much a vacation as other years since I’ll have to alternate between work and social events instead of being completely free for a week.

not overly busy Dec 23, 2019

For some reason I received a flurry of requests recently for some small translation jobs due after xmas, but I did them ahead of time. I'm working on a large proofreading job over the holidays due Jan 8, and I let some of my clients know I was available.
However, I turned down a job today, not a very big one, but I don't want to spend the entire holiday in front of my computer!
