Always for new clients Oct 19, 2005

I've been doing business with some clients for so long that we know and trust each other well enough that a formal PO isn't required. Some clients prefer to use a PO to protect their rights (delivery date, format, etc). I also have some clients who aren't particularly good businesspeople, and I feel more comfortable requiring the verification (delivery date, rate, etc.) that a PO provides.

I've been burned too often! Oct 19, 2005

Maybe there should have been a category "almost always," because the truth is that for small rush jobs I occasionally skip the formalities. But I do so knowing that there could be a problem getting paid. I would never take that chance on a big job. I've had a number of bad experiences. Even with my steadiest clients it has happened that when the originating office tried to find money in the budget to pay for the job, they have backed down and decided not to do it.

Even with the proper paperwork in hand, I have had to stop what I was doing. Which brings up a good question for another poll!

Translation is a business like any other business.

POs, are they the same as instructions via email? Oct 29, 2005

I'm new at this cyber-space transaction on jobs via proz, only since September 2005. And, it seems a good idea to ask for POs but does an instruction via email counts as a PO. This kind of thing makes me wonder. Comments anyone?

In my opinion, at least one option is lacking in this poll Nov 3, 2005

namely, "usually" or something like it
