But the average is pretty staggered. My "public" account is the one I use when I must provide an e-mail address to register, log in or otherwise provide a valid mail address. This one gets about 500 spam e-mails a month. My "private" address, the one I use for business and family only gets 1 or 2 spam e-mails once every few days. Pawel Skalinski

The more e-mails you have, the more Spam. I agree that it's a boring poll.

I have two email addresses, I don't get any spam emails at all, on either of them. But then, I'm really careful with my surfing and the kind of information I give out.

Hi! Giovanni Guarnieri MITI, MIL wrote: no offence... but this must be one of the most boring polls ever! Giovanni No offence taken, Giovanni! Everybody has a right to an opinion. For me, the results of this poll are quite interesting. Thanks everybody for voting! The idea of this poll came to me a few days ago, after noticing that I had started to receive what I was considering to be a high number of spam messages (4-5 per day). I can see now that I should be happy with only 4-5 per day because it can be much worse. 100+ per day?! That must be a nightmare!. I was pretty careful with my e-mails, but I suspect they were crawled from my profile page. I put my e-mails on the profile page to make it easier for the outsourcers to contact me, but now I’m not sure it was a good idea. I took a look at Sandra’s and Lily’s profile pages and they don’t have their e-mails displayed. Therefore, that could be one of the main reasons for not receiving spam messages. What I’d like to hear is if there are people who have their e-mails displayed on their profile pages/web sites and, despite that, receive no spam. That would be really great. I think they must apply some strategies and, if such people do exist, I’d be grateful if they told us how they manage to do that.

I put my e-mails on the profile page to make it easier for the outsourcers to contact me, but now I'm not sure it was a good idea. It wasn't. Spammers scan the web for e-mail addresses. There was a forum thread about putting an e-mail address on webpage: http://www.proz.com/topic/38073

I am convinced with the idea that we should have separate IDs for business and public dealings. Is there any effective way out of this nuisance? ▲ Collapse

It's annoying, but I guess it's a part of life - or at least, it's a part of life with an email address. I wish that were not the case, but I guess it's best not to stress about it. However, that being said, I do not at all disagree with the post "what is the purpose.." since I think we all feel the same way, we wish they'd leave us well enough along, you know?:)
