Christmas Eve Dec 26, 2007

Christmas Eve is a normal working day in the UK (though many businesses let most staff leave at mid-day).
Today, however is a holiday. Boxing day is when employers traditionally delivered Christmas presents to their employees.

little "holidays" Dec 26, 2007

I planed to take a few days around christmas to enjoy the holidays with my daughter and my husband but one of my regular (and best) client asked me if I could provide a translation for january 5th (the day of my birthday!). I did accept and now I have to work, but I manage to spend time with my family and I sleep late every morning!
Best wishes.

Not on Chirstmas Dec 26, 2007

I worked a little on Christmas Eve but didn't do it on Chirstmas. Howver, I have several projects due during this week, January 2nd, and January 8th.

Long working hours for this season. Let's hope the next year will also be full of translation projects.

No way!!! Dec 26, 2007

I didn't even turn my computer on, on Sunday 23rd, Monday 24th and yesterday 25th. Of course today I'm about to download hundreds of e-mails and job offers, but it doesn't matter. It's not as important as celebrating Christmas with the ones you love.

Christmas Eve is also a business day here... Dec 26, 2007

... well, a half working day - so I did work. But I had done enough to be able to afford Christmas day off, which was wonderful.

It was great to spend it with the family with nothing pressing to distract me!

Plans do not always work out, but they did in this instance!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Lina

What does "working" exactly mean? Dec 27, 2007

I imagine it means: "did you work as a translator/interpreter/language specialist/you name it?".

If so, no I didn't work: I managed to get those two days off.

However, I am someone who had decided to never cook a turkey for Christmas (I sometimes like to go against what's established), but my husband's very dear friend thought it was a great idea to give him as a present a frozen turkey for 25 people!!!

So yes, I surely did work (according to my standards),

So yes, I surely did work (according to my standards), cooking all day on the 24th (and even before, trying to get the thing ready for cooking). I almost hurt my back because it was more than 11 kg. Lucky me , I own a large fridge and a large oven (as we're 6 of us in the family), otherwise it wouldn't have fit in either one... What would I have done?

First and last time ever... I (hope I can) swear.

(I answered "other")

My family would have killed me! Dec 27, 2007

So I worked all through the night and delivered -as promised- a translation at 7 a.m. on Dec. 24. After a 4-hour nap, I was up and shining, and managed to keep my eyes open and have a great time with the family for two days in a row

I guess the same will happen next Monday, but I call this a very good way to close a very good year!
