Surpassed. Dec 27, 2007

Habitual clients this year, plus a very huge film festival I was "chasing" from a long time ago.
Good year, yeah!

and my accountant said my targets "sounded steep". But then I'm not a company.

I just like exploring the room "up there"

I quit my inhouse job 14 months ago, so my goals/expectations for this year were really quite simple:

- build a small but stable client base (done: small & stable) during this year
- be able to live off of only what I earn as a freelancer, even if that meant sticking to a tight budget for the year (done, and with a less stricter budget than I'd expected)

The unexpected: I managed to save enough to afford going back to school to pursue further studies next year.

All in all, awesome year

(here's to hoping I won't jinx it)

Met and surpassed Dec 28, 2007

Met: in terms of income (actually surpassed if I take into account that I took regular breaks this year, which I didn't do previously)

Met: in terms of client retention

Met: in terms of attracting a number of new "fallback" clients for when/if an "inner circle" client has a quiet period.

Surpassed: in that one of those new clients actually made it into the "inner circle" and are in no danger of expulsion

Met: in terms of continuing professional development, although my expectations for 2008 will be higher in this area, given I'll be based most of the year in the UK where there is far more on offer (compared to Portugal where I live the rest of the time).

Surpassed: in terms of keeping up with technology, to the extent it helped improve my productivity tremendously.

Met: in terms of keeping to my rule of not letting others infringe upon/abuse my time, which was an awful problem in 2006 with a particular colleague. But also surpassed in terms of a couple of new virtual friendships with true professionals who share their expertise in a true give-and-take fashion.

All in all, a very rewarding year on the professional front.

Happy New Year everyone - may 2008 be highly productive and free of payment hassles but most of all full of happiness and good health!
