"The Ibn Ishaq Translation Programme aims to help the dialogue and understanding between Arab and non-Arab world through literary exchange

Named after the legendary Syriac Translator Hunayun Ibn Ishaq Al’Ibadi (809 - 873), known as the Sheikh of the Translators, this project is managed jointly by the Clearing House for Literary Translation and the Darat al Funun - Khalid Shoman Foundation.
Aiming to help the dialogue and understanding between Arab and non-Arab world through literary exchange, the Ibn Ishaq Translation Programme focuses on the translation and publication (from the Arabic into English or from whatever language into the Arabic) of at least two literary works per year. The works are selected on the basis of the following criteria:

They have to be of exceptional literary and cultural value.

The Arab works will be as yet unpublished in any language other than the original, or have only been circulated to a limited extent; the non-Arab works will be as yet unpublished in Arabic version.

They shall enjoy full visibility in the geographic and linguistic area of their origin.

They will show great potential as long-term sellers.

In conformity with UNESCO ideals and mandate, they will not contain any expressions advocating violence, discrimination or social hatred."
