This idea is "borrowed" from another site.

Why not include a counter underneath "Quotes Received" that states "This Job Viewed x# Times"?

Presumably, the job would (at least in the majority of cases) only be viewed by people who work in that language pair and who are currently looking for work. The counter should only count each member once no matter how many times they view the job.

In this manner, when you see 20 quotes for a low-paying job, you will also see that 850 other people viewed the job and said no thanks!

This would be a useful tool for the outsourcer as well.

Good idea Aug 30, 2005

This is how it works on other sites. Most jobs today are none-quote anyway, because the system here is not suited for outsourcers who want to recieve CVs and other attachments.

Nice idea Aug 30, 2005

And while we're at it, can we have a "You're kidding, right?" button?

No, seriously, I posted only very few jobs, but I'd be very interested in seeing how many visits my (future) postings (as well as other job offers) received.

Good idea Jeff.
A Swedish agency some years ago informed me that they accepted translators on a long-term assessment basis. Once they started to send you work, you were assigned to one of 3 grades or levels and worked your way up, or along, or down, as the case might be. At the highest level, they were so confident of the quality of your work, they said, that they didn’t have to run checks.
This sounded very sensible to me. I asked whether each level/grade carried a certain rate of payment, but heard no more from them.

If I understand correctly, this would be a useful tool for indicating to outsourcers that their expectations are considered to be beyond the pale.

It would also be useful in giving starters an idea of what's for real in this business. If it works, I will take steps to have you nominated for an award in Her Majesty's New Year's Honours List.
