There's a topic in the KudoZ forum at the moment entitled: Should the "clarification" and the "discussion" areas be merged?, started by Enriqué.

When you read the topic, it's immediately obvious that Enriqué is ProZ site staff, because it says so! But this is not shown in the listing of latest topics on the main page.

I scan through the latest topics, choosing only those that might interest me. If, as has been stated, there is going to be more of this type of posting asking for members' views, I'd rather not miss them - it's important to give our views if we want the site to be representative of our needs and wishes.

I wonder if others feel that it would be useful to identify such topics in the latest topics listing.

Agree Mar 7, 2009

Not only I agree with what you suggest, Sheila, I also think such important topics should be sticky.

Many of us have asked for sticky topics for quite a while, for various reasons, and this would be one of their uses.

I think yours is an excellent idea, Sheila.

Perhaps there could also be an option to receive notifications when ProZ staff starts a topic (I apologize if this feature is already available)

That, too, would be useful.

@ Viktoria. I'm sure your idea is good, too, Viktoria, if only I knew what a "sticky" topic was! Excuse my ignorance, but could you please explain?

Sticky topics Mar 8, 2009

A sticky topic is one which, because of its nature, always takes precedence over other topics, no matter when the last post was made. These are topics that are highlighted. Such topics are always displayed ahead of all other topics.

The two most frequent types of sticky topics are topics that make an important announcement that concerns all users (like, for instance, the modification of the role of moderators) and topics that people discuss so often that too many threads are posted on the same topic (on ProZ, this would probably be a thread discussing how to translate a PDF using Trados).

So, sticky topics are simply threads the display of which is given priority.

Victoria (sticky topics),

*perhaps unless you decide to opt out of such notifications in the dashboard

Thanks for the explanation Viktoria - they sound tailor-made for this instance.

Thanks also to Laureana, Nesrin and Maartje - let's hope something comes of it. It's over to ProZ now to respond (or not)
