G'day everyone

I'm quite interested in many of the paid video's currently available on ProZ.com, but I don't want to spend money on something that I did not see. I therefore suggest that ProZ.com allows a preview of the videos, either as a 2 minute or 5 minute video of any portion of the video (preferred), or as a series of 5-10 screenshots (not ideal at all) from the video. Longer descriptions would also be nice (e.g. a table of contents, so to speak).

Samuel

What a great idea! Oct 18, 2011

Probably 5 minutes would be reasonable minimum as the first few minutes usually contain introduction and is not very representative for the entire video.

Limitation of our current player Oct 18, 2011

Thanks Sam - glad you're interested in the video training options.

You're right that is a much better means for showcasing video content. Our current capabilities in promoting/marketing the videos is somewhat limited due to the player we are using (it does not support previews). Unfortunately migrating to a new player/system is not a simple task, there are many developments that have been coded "on top" of that player as well as our entire video library/content which would need to be migrated.

This is definitely on our list of project improvements.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Regards,

Drew

Preview does not have to be dynamic Oct 18, 2011

Why not simply create short 5-minute versions of the videos and place a download link to the video file on the video's page? That would require no change in your architecture whatsoever.

An alternative to the video preview is to provide a 5-minute audio preview, which can also be a downloadable file (the user's browser will launch the associated player if there is one).

Done for only some videos so far Oct 18, 2011

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for your suggestions!

We created previews for only some videos in the way you just mentioned, for example: http://www.proz.com/videos/translation%20business%20development/145 . It is in our list of improvements to do this for other on demand content as well.

Thanks again,

Soledad
