I would like to point to the need of being more careful when indicating the nationality of ProZ members.

Take a look at the following snapshot of one of members - http://bit.ly/1B6gF7e . As far as I remember, the Crimea is a part of Ukraine. It was once part of Russia (some 60 years ago). Now it is not

Take a look at the following snapshot of one of members - http://bit.ly/1B6gF7e . As far as I remember, the Crimea is a part of Ukraine. It was once part of Russia (some 60 years ago). Now it is not.

Or, here - http://bit.ly/1DTKOb4 . I can see some strange border between the Crimea and the rest of Ukraine. And it does not look like an ordinary border between regions inside the country.

My suggestion is that the site staff can change their map service provider to a more accurate one - e.g., Google Maps, where state borders are shown more accurately.

The same goes for the names of countries shown on the profiles of members. It is only natural that regions of other countries should be assigned to "correct" countries.

I do understand that it will take time, but accurate information on the profiles of both service providers and outsources will only benefit the industry.

Thank you.

Profile owner specifies location as they see fit Mar 4, 2015

Hello Vadim,

In the first example you point out, note that it's up to the profile owner to specify their own country and region however they deem appropriate. That can be edited directly from the contact section of the profile updater: http://www.proz.com/settings/freelancer/contact . There it is possible to select values from a list, or to type the name of a region directly in the field. This is done in the interest of flexibility, and to cover the possibility of non-exhaustive lists of locations.

As for the maps location section, that feature is powered by Google maps. ProZ.com has no influence on how borders are displayed using this service.

I hope this explains, but please let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Maria
