Hi. I'm not sure if this the right place to post this, but today I received 2 mails from an address in India, via proz.com

Dear ,

I'm happy to inform you about my success in getting those
funds transferred after you helped me in Translating.
Presently I'm in a remote arear in ISLE OF MAN for
investment projects with my own share of the total sum.
Meanwhile, I didn't forget your past efforts and attempts
to assist me in which is basically the reason I succeeded
in getting these having given your wonderful service to me.

Now my sectretary MR. GREG PETERS email: gregpeters@o2.pl
Tel: 234-8034698564 Ask him to send you the total of
$650.000.00 which I kept for your compensation for all the
past efforts and attempts to assist me in this matter in
the past.

I appreciated your efforts at that time very much. So feel
free and get in touch with my secretary MR. GREG PETERS and
instruct him where to send the amount to you.

Please do let me know immediately you receive it so that we
can share the joy after all the sufferness at that time. In
the moment, I'm very busy here because of the investment
projects which me and the new partner are having at hand.
Finally, remember that I had forwarded instruction to the
secretary on your behalf to receive that money, so feel
free to get in touch with MR. GREG PETERS, he will send the
amount to you without any delay.

Regards,
Abu Sherrif

Block them and report them Apr 22, 2008

At the bottom of the email you will find a way to block the sender but you also should submit a support ticket indicating the sender's IP.

I still think there should be a direct link to submit spam emails.

If one has been submitted, please let me know. Otherwise, I will submit one. I received 2 identical pieces of e-mail.

A compliment to the ProZ staff, BTW Apr 23, 2008

I report such things immediately as a support ticket (besides blocking the sender in my own browser).

The ProZ staff reacts immediately and the problem is usually solved within minutes. A huge Thank you!!

Just needed to be said.

Regards,

Nicole

Spam is here Apr 23, 2008

I assume spammer mail address is in the body of the message received and the mail originates from proz.com mail servers.[/b]In this scenario blocking spammer won't work.[/b]
It remains to be seen if there is setting to prevent a non proz.com registered user to send emails.
If no such thing. If not let your voice to be heard. From the point of server management this is fairly easy thing to do.
Unfortunately web mail providers , including Yahoo won't react upon spammers as much as they do on mass mailers.Even when they do the spammer move elsewhere.Probably as is in this case,I have doubts that spammers physical location is India.
If things gets naughty , you may study full headers of the email and use a bait. But your case doesn't necessitate such a measure.

Thanks Buck and Nicole, and everyone who helps out to make the site more secure.

kenopensky, you can choose to limit who sends you email through your profile by going to the "Settings" tab, and checking under "Email preferences". There you currently have three options:

Allow anyone to send me messages via my profile page
Allow only ProZ.com members who are logged in to send me messages via my profile
Allow no one to send me messages via my profile page

You can also check the box below these options to allow vetting of messages sent to your profile, which helps us to catch spammers before the email is even sent to you. Thanks.

Best regards,

Jared

I've had the box for vetting of e-mails sent through my profile checked ever since I joined in 2004 and have only ever had one scam e-mail sent through my profile in almost four years, whereas other members are continuously complaining about this.

So, it's probably worth doing, if you haven't done so already.
