Profile visits from Russian porn site Thread poster: XXXphxxx (X)

I have no idea which section to post this topic in. Please feel free to move it.
I have had 5 recent visits to my profile from a Russian porn site. Has anyone else had the same? I wonder if site staff might explain how/why this might have happened.
Needless to say: not happy.

I rather thought our profiles were freely available to anyone who looked for them, or happened to come across them. And that includes all those trawler robots out there. Surely we want anyone who might have an interest to be able to access our public profiles, don't we? I mean, translating porn may not be your idea of earning a living but I imagine there are at least a few legitimate translators who would do it - and they probably have profiles here.

What happens after that IS selective, AFAIK. We can determine who can contact us and how, and ProZ.com take on the job of filtering out the worst spammers and scammers. Though they do allow the €0.01 merchants to contact us very often . ▲ Collapse

How did you find that out, Lisa? I checked my profile views, just in case I was missing out on some extra work there, but I don't see where that kind of information is. Did you look up the IP numbers? Or does one have to be a Certified Pro to see it?

The actual URL appears in the "Came From" column. I presume the information would be available to all members.

Thanks for reporting this.
As Sheila mentions, those visits are indeed coming from a search engine crawler, not an actual person. I have now taken the necessary steps to block this particular crawler's activity on the site, so hopefully you won't see these types of visits in the future.
