Virus or Spyware? Nov 9, 2005

Was it a virus or spyware? Many antispyware tools detect kudoz tool as spyware. In that case, you shoud mark it as "disregard" or "exclude" or "allow". No problem.
If it is a virus, that`s something different and more serious.
Hope it helps.
Walter

Do you have the newest version? Nov 9, 2005

Hi Jorge,

Did you download the toolbar prior to November 2nd? If so, then you downloaded the old version of the toolbar which has been known to be wrongly identified as adware by some adware programs and virus scanners. If this is the case, simply download the newest version which should correct the problem.

If you're sure you have version 2 of the toolbar: What program detected the program as a virus? What file?

Best Regards,
Colin

TOPIC STARTER
Not a virus but an adware Nov 9, 2005

Hi Collin!
Actually the toolbar downloading carries two adwares.
In my desktop PC, the Spy Sweeper detected the cram toolbar and sent me the following information:
"Description - Cram toolbar is a pornographic search toolbar that may hyjack your homepage ou search your setting and may display pornographic pop-up advertisements on your computer".

In my other machine, a Desknote, the AVAST! detected the adware Win32:Adware-gn (Adw).
And, the more curious thing is that my Desknote also has SpySweeper installed and it did not detected the Cram toolbar.
To be honest, I'm not sure if is a very good idea to dowload the toolbar for IE (version 2)icon_frown.gif
Many thanks
Jorge

V2 version: virus, spyware, bugs? Nov 12, 2005

Dear colleagues,
Kudoz toolbar has been VERY useful to me, indeed. Unfortunately, three different antyspyware programs detected spyware in in it. That did not happen during the first couple of months, so I put "disregard" or "allow". However, since my PC system was becoming more and more slow and unstable, I uninstalled the toolbar, cleaned it up, and installed the new version, following Colin´s advice in another forum ( http://www.proz.com/topic/38433 ).

It seems to work Ok now, but it`s too early for judgements yet.
But- always a "but"- the design, behind the "Kudoz search" and "ask a question" signs, you can see all kind of things, from the desktop to words from old searchs to anything you might have written the day before, in some kind of crazy puzzle. Also, I´ve noticed that if IE is the only open software, there is a white background behind the "Kudoz search" and "ask a question" signs. If I also open Outlook Express, for example, I can see text from some emails from OE mixed with those sign words, instead of the white backgound I mentioned before.

It really bothers and hurts my eyes. Does it happen to anybody else?
Please, HEEELP!

Thanks

Walter Landesman
