Wrong unicode, but no option to fix it....

I have found several places where the unicode conversion in glossary entries appears to be incorrect, but there is no "red arrow" icon next to it, to try to find a better unicode conversion. There is only a "green tick" icon, to confirm that it is correct.

Is there any way to try to fix broken unicode conversions like this?

Here is an example that I found this morning:

And I have also found some where there are no icons at all, such as these:

Glossary problem, yes, but what error you are seeing? May 17, 2006

Hello Stuart,

I just took a look at the first KudoZ in question:
http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1143926
I'm not seeing an error in the glossary entry for that KudoZ.

The other two I've taken the liberty of correcting directly in the glossary entries themselves. Thus:

p᧩na > página
conexi󮠱ue > conexión que [and I fixed the accents in the rest of the entry, too. icon_wink.gif ]

The underlying issue you raise is quite real: Unicode has not made it to all parts of the Site. The Jobs area is another case in point. I'm not aware of a timetable for when the rest of the Site will move to Unicode.

Maybe you can try changing it to Latin-1. It works great for Spanish.

It's still there... May 17, 2006

I just took a look at the first KudoZ in question:

I'm not seeing an error in the glossary entry for that KudoZ.

Thanks, Yolanda! I just checked that question again by clicking on the link that you posted and refreshing my cache, but the problem is still there. Maybe it is something to do with the configuration of my computer, but I don't think so.

I guess you must be seeing something different on your computer, but I thought one of the advantages of unicode was that everyone would see the same thing.

In any event, the problem that I see is in the title of the glossary entry. I see it as: "Its an exciting time to be in this space" with a square box instead of an apostrophe in the word "It's".

Immediately underneath the words "this space" is the green tick icon that you can use to confirm that the coding is correct, but there is no icon next to it for being able to choose another coding.

Anyway, here is a suggestion: How about implementing some method of "flagging" problems like this that we come across, when there are no icons for correcting them? It might even be as simple as a new forum, where we can post a link to the problem, and somebody from tech support can check that forum every day or every week, fix the problems, and wipe it clean. Just some way of letting you guys know that there is an issue.

It's all greek to me... May 18, 2006

I just came across another interesting one, where NONE of the unicode options seems to fit.

http://www.proz.com/kudoz/777759

Look at the winning answer. The very first "agree" to this answer mentions the term in Greek, as follows: "Del griego "íïõò" = mente". I clicked on the red arrow to try to find the correct encode, and asked for all of the possibilities, but none of them look right to me.

Not that I speak Greek, but none of the offered unicode selections even LOOK like Greek characters. Maybe I'm wrong...
