Today I received an email from Proz that I apparently requested a password change. I did NOT! Is it possible that someone is trying to/managed to hack onto my proz account??

The contents, without the link and my email address:

Not likely Sep 12, 2007

Hi Yoanna, I think you needn\'t worry. It\'s the way the password recovery system works. Somebody typed in your name here: http://www.proz.com/?sp=new_password
(I just did the same thing, so you should expect another e-mail like that with my IP address.

There is no need to worry at all Sep 12, 2007

Dear Yoanna,

As you can see, it is possible from anybody to require the password recovery using this link: http://www.proz.com/?sp=new_password
Anyone can select your username and ask for a password recovery and of course you get a new password email.

The piece of advice is the following: you do not need to do anything with the email. Do not confirm the new password at all and for security reasons you might consider the idea of changing your username.
As long as you do not reply or confirm those email you have all the control over your selected password.
There is no need to worry about it.

I read that you have submitted a support ticket already, but I wanted to give you my support anyway.

Have a nice day!
Florencia

Weird... Sep 12, 2007

Dear Yoanna,

The password is only changed if you accept it by clicking on the link provided on the email. Otherwise you still keep your own password.

As I told you the control is yours. Jared is looking at that problem right now. He will let you what has happened.

Do not worry at all.

Kind regards,
Florencia

Thanks, I would like to believe... Sep 12, 2007

... the control is mine. But yes it is weird since I really didn't click on it. In the meantime I changed my email password [I have the latest Norton antivirus and a paid, secure webhosting service]. Freaking out here...
