Participants should be able to vote on their own entry. Why? The average votes in the qualifying stage are pretty low. No one wants to prejudice the chances of the own entry. So probably participants rating entries of other competitors tend to stick to the low end of the scale (1 to 3 points) avoiding rates of 4 or 5 points. If you allow the participants to vote on their own entries they will certainly be very convinced of the own entry and rate it with 5 points. But as everyone will act in this way it will have no consequences on the final result of the contest. The advantage: After rating your own entry you will feel more comfortable with rating other entries with higher votes. In the end you will get more differentiated scores.

Wouldn't it be far more ethical, fair and impartial Mar 4, 2013

if participants were not allowed to vote on other entries within the same contest? Anyway, that's what I have done!

... but we problably would have more problems to get enough votes. I suppose that the majority of voters are participants either. As long as lack of votes is an issue I think this method is easier.
