Trying to send an email to offer my services Jan 19, 2010

Dear Henry,

Please find my message below to Yuliana. I am contacting you since the email address is not functioning and I wish to do something to help Haiti.

Can you advise or pass my message on to TSF???

Thank you and kind regards
Enkelien Kip drs

Dear Yuliana,

In reaction to the above mentioned call, I wish to express my readiness to help out. I am a professional translator French/English/Dutch. Although my mothertongye is Dutch I am a near native in English and live in the French speaking part of Belgium (have a university degree in French/English translation).

I am only explaining all this because I am more than willing to help these poor people, but also want you to know that I am not a native in the required languages.
Please find attached my resume, so you get an impression of my skills.

Let me know what you think and what I can do for you and Haiti.

Kind regards and keep up the good work

Enkelien Kip ms. drs.

Can you remove the email addresses? Jan 19, 2010

I sincerely think that, for Enkelien's protection (against spammers), her email and phone data should be removed from this forum. Can a moderator or Proz.com staff person take care of it?

Am I missing something here? Jan 19, 2010

There is another forum which is similar in intent: http://www.proz.com/forum/off_topic/155254-haitian_crisis:_translators_and_interpreters_group.html

Can these initiatives be combined, if deemed appropriate?

Thanks and regards.

Taña

Thanks, but this is how it was asked to be published.

Apparently the period was getting in the way, at least for your default email application. I have removed it.

Thanks for your involvement, and for letting me know.

Update: response today has been strong Jan 19, 2010

Hi all,

I have just heard that the response has been very strong, with over 80 translators expressing their willingness to be involved just today.

Update: Thanks, and please hold off on volunteering for now Jan 19, 2010

OK, we just got an update. Lori Thicke writes:

"...that was a wildly successful initiative to get translators to register! I feel a bit like the Sorcerer's Apprentice, however. Could we please turn off the faucet until further notice? I really really don't want us to spend all our time testing and vetting translators, when we should be getting work out."

Thanks for the great response folks. I imagine that when more volunteers are needed by Translators Without Borders, another call will go out.

People are trying to coordinate efforts Jan 19, 2010

There are quite a few initiatives out there. At least one group has been formed with the goal of coordinating the various efforts. If things begin to take shape, and centralize somewhere, we'll give notice...

In the meantime, Translators Without Borders is an established group that appears to have already become engaged in the support efforts in Haiti.

Thanks Henry Jan 19, 2010

Thank you for your positive response. I was merely looking at it in terms of co-ordination (not an easy task by any means). All the initiatives have merit as Haiti's situation is very grim indeed.

Again, thank you and regards.

register as an interpreter/translator for TSF Jan 21, 2010

Hello to everyone,

I have tried to register as an interpreter/translator on line but the mink given by TSF doesn't seem to work. The link is GlobalSight and I am still waiting to receive an e-mail in order to complete the registration check out this link and tell me if you too had an issue to register if you did. http://www.tsf-twb.org/. Are you aware of any other way to register as a TSF translator?

Many thanks for your reply,

Sylviex

I too tried to register with TSF earlier, and was asked to try again later. But, given Henry's earlier message ("Please hold off" on 19 January), it would seem that they currently have all the translators they can cope with. Meanwhile, a another posting from Rubric, who are looking for volunteer translators for TSF - so perhaps they still have a gap...

What about this: Jan 23, 2010

http://www.proz.com/translation-jobs/386101

Is this a real voluntary participation ?
I applied, but just wonder why I do not have any feedback !
