Hi all,

From time to time, in the interest of improving the site, ProZ.com traffic is analyzed using "Google Analytics" or similar tools. Generally, the tool is turned on for a few days, so that a "snapshot" can be taken, then it is turned off and improvements are made.

During the period that the tool is in use, information is gathered (including a site user's IP address) and a report is generated, for the ProZ.com staff, in aggregate form.

Hi all,

From time to time, in the interest of improving the site, ProZ.com traffic is analyzed using "Google Analytics" or similar tools. Generally, the tool is turned on for a few days, so that a "snapshot" can be taken, then it is turned off and improvements are made.

Google Analytics will be turned on again soon, for a period of approximately three days. If you do not wish to have information about the pages visited from your IP logged by Google Analytics, you may indicate that preference here: http://www.proz.com/privacy-settings If you choose to opt out, data from your page visits will not be obtained by Google Analytics.

I see no problem Jul 11, 2011

No problem as far as I'm concerned however I fail to see how you can get an accurate idea of your web page traffic with only 3 days of data

Why no notification on main website? Jul 12, 2011

Don't you think this deserves to be mentioned on the main website? I never would have known, and I certainly never heard about the opt-out option before.

That we would be doing this periodically was announced a while back, and the privacy policy was updated, with front page visibility and notifications. (Several hundred opted out at the time.)

This was an extra notice. (And it did / does appear on the home page.)

I am referring to the forum topic title, which ran (and is still running for some people) on the home page. Whether or not it appears, and for how long, would depend on your settings.

Right, I see. I don't happen to subscribe to that forum. As this is something that affects all site users, I don't see why it wasn't posted more prominently, like under "New at proz.com" on the main page. Surely it is more important than a podcast or the gift shop.
