Current tagline is definitely a problem! Apr 21, 2006

In my case, the tagline - supposedly based on the first field on the list, which is alphabetically ordered - displays truncated. How about an option of sorting our specialist fields according to experience/preference rather than alphabetically? Also, I don't like the fact that some fields are highlighted (blue font) to show that I've answered KudoZ questions in these fields. To potential clients who don't know about the KudoZ systems, the different colour might suggest that these are my preferre... See more

How about an option of sorting our specialist fields according to experience/preference rather than alphabetically? Also, I don't like the fact that some fields are highlighted (blue font) to show that I've answered KudoZ questions in these fields. To potential clients who don't know about the KudoZ systems, the different colour might suggest that these are my preferred fields. Just because I haven't answered any questions in the other fields doesn't mean I'm not good at them - there just haven't been that many questions posted
Another issue is the target rates being displayed. As far as I remember, these could be hidden in the old display. Is this possible here as well? If not, I'd rather have the option of removing them altogether.
Finally, the map of the UK looks rather curious as to which cities are marked and which are not...Any chance this could be run by a UK member to make it look more like a standard map? This is one of the - many - new features that I really like, so it seems a shame that it looks so strange at the moment.

Thanks very much for all your hard work, Enrique - I'm sure we'll all be grateful for the improvements once we get used to them.

Sorry - forget about the rates comment! Apr 21, 2006

Just realised that this can be toggled, as before.

Lack of Customisation Apr 21, 2006

I think what I find lack is in the customisation (color, preset customised layout etc).
I find it bit awkward to see that proz.com site for example is only has its brownish color all the time.

Thx

Hikmat

Profile title Apr 21, 2006

marie-christine périé wrote:

However, there's one single thing I find very annoying indeed: when I click on the links to see my profile in the new format, it opens up with the top header:
English to French translation. Translation services in Cinema, Film, TV.

Can you please tell me how I can change this heading?

Go to Profile-->Settings-->Search engine settings (at the bottom)
-->Title displayed in your profile

It's a pity it works only in the new format, though. In the old one the title still is the first area of specialization on your list. Hope this can be fixed

I agree that having the option to sort one's specialization areas would be a great improvement. It has already been requested a couple of times.

Portfolio emergency Apr 21, 2006

In the new profile the width of the source and target languages columns is fixed (they are the same), while in the old format it depends on the quantity of text entered (the box with more text is automatically made wider).

I devoted a lot of time to make make sure that the source and target paragraphs of my sample are parallel (by entering additional line breaks where necessary). It makes the sample more readable and allows for better comparison. But now if it looks good in one for

It makes the sample more readable and allows for better comparison. But now if it looks good in one format, it is a complete mess in the other due to the difference in column width.

Can you please make it fixed in the old format, too? I'd really appreciate it.
Please, please, please...

Re: Portfolio Apr 21, 2006

Wow, that was fast! Thank you!

I forgot that the Portfolio boxes in the old and new profile differ in size (the new ones are thinner), so some text shifts are unavoidable anyway - well, I guess I'll have to live with that.

However, after you fixed the width, the texts are not as messed up as before and the new portfolio looks much better (not perfect, but hey, who's perfect? THANK YOU!!!

the local time for the Netherlands is listed as being 2 hours earlier than it is in reality, and I don't seem to be able to fix it myself (being able to fix time yourself would indeed be handy for a translator ). Can this be fixed?

Just click the little icon next to the clock and then edit your time zone (in your case you need to add 2 hours, GMT + 200).

"Availability not set"? Apr 21, 2006

I posted this comment elsewhere; just found this thread.

I love the new layout. It's very clear and uncluttered.

The availability calender is great. But why, after I've set it for April and May, is there still a little box above the calendar that says "Availability not set"?

Later: This problem is now cleared up--thank you to whoever fixed it, whether individually or globally. The box above the calendar now shows the availability level that I selected for t

Map? What map? Apr 21, 2006

Where are these maps that others are talking about? There isn't one on my page.

Also--and I've just spent half an hour trying to fix this myself before asking for help--I am listed as being from "Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico." I tried editing my personal info, where it clearly says that I'm from San Germán, Puerto Rico. How can I make this show on my profile page?

I would never have gotten a very lucrative job teaching English in San Germán if an alert colleague hadn't referred an inquiry to me. I need for potential clients to see my city! (Most PR translators are located in the San Juan metro area.)

It is very nice! Apr 21, 2006

Dear Proz staff,

One possible add-on could be education categories.

There are only

BA
MA
PhD
Other

Other is not an education category
Here a medical doctor will be listed under "other".

It may be better to list:

BS
MS
MD

and may be an engineer category.

Regards,

N.

Help! My free-text has disappeared! Apr 22, 2006

I just noticed the "Customize for non-English languages" function and wanted to see how it works. But when I clicked on the "Add a free-text area in another language" button, my old free-text disappeared! Lucky I had a back copy. I entered it again but although it shows in the old profile all right, the free-text area in my new profile remains empty. Can you please look into this? Thanks.

Looks great! But about the ASKED Kudoz questions... Apr 22, 2006

I like the new look very much - bravo!

But...I'm so busy these days I just manage to get my translations out, so I am not participating much right now in ANSWERING questions. So when potential clients visit my profile they will see I'm ASKING a lot more than I'm ANSWERING - which may give them the wrong idea. I couldn't find an option to turn off the "questions asked" function. Could I get instructions on how to do so if I just haven't figured it out, or could you set this up if

Counter Apr 22, 2006

It seems that the Visitors Counter has not been working for couple of days.
I was curious about that because it didn`t show any visitor today or yesterday. So I tested with some other people from different PC,. they "visited" me but my counter still does not register them.
Can you check into that, please?

Hi, the new profile page looks good. The availability calendar in particular is an excellent addition. However, my local time in Australia is 10 hours out! (Maybe someone thought it was Austria)! ) I'd be glad if this can be fixed. Congratulations on a great site.

Hi, Sarah

Apparently the local time is not an automatic function--you need to set it yourself. Just go to the little button to the left of your local time, press it, and edit. You'll have to figure out how many hours plus or minus Greenwich Mean Time you are; just compare to GMT shown at the top of any ProZ page. It should work fine then!

Now if someone can tell me how to show that I'm from San Germán, Puerto Rico, not "Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico," we can both be happy. I do like the new format though, very much.

Cheers!

Jane
