I would like us to have a guide for new tralnslators in the field of translation for members at These are 4 major questions that translators face.
-Please answer as many questions as possible, and include further details that might help a translator, thanks.

1. Where is the Translation Market?
2. Who are the biggest clients of the Translation Market?
3. Who are the clients that should be approached by a Translation Agency, or a freelance translator first.
4. How to approach the major clients, and what services should a Translation Agency Provide.

These are only 4 basic questions, it would be great if you could include other information that would help a translator or a translation agency start working the Translation Market. Thanks,

It already exists Sep 28, 2006

There are many posts on this forum giving new translators tips for entering the translation market. In addition, the question of where to find jobs has been asked numerous times here, and has been answered both with fresh advice and with lists of pointers to previous posts on the topic. The forum search can be used to advantage to find these. In fact, multiple answers all your questions can be found with a little effort, and reading the different points of view may be quite helpful, while at the same time finding them at ProZ and elsewhere on the internet is a good exercise for practicing searching skills.

Another source of advice on this site is the Article Knowledgebase, particularly the Getting Established section.

I notice that your questions #2 and 4 focus on "biggest" and "major" clients. The underlying assumption is that these are the best places to start; however it is often more difficult for a new translator to penetrate already well-serviced markets than to discover untapped or underserviced corners of the market.
