I may make an example of one individual, but it's not the individual that bothers, but the fact that people in our profession lay claim to qualities they do not possess.

There's hope: the new translation standard, ES:15038, which incidentally makes NO reference to nativeness or otherwise. What it does do is place an emphaisis on the translation service provider (companies or agencies) being ultimately (i.e. legallly) responsible for the translations they outsource, which means thay will be more circumspect in choosing translators. In other words, this represents a regulation of the profession that mightly eventually give the profession status and recognition.
