In November, there were complaints about the time required for email alerts to reach site users. Technical changes in the way we send mail have resulted in gradual improvements since then.

The first change we made was to give priority to platinum members. Platinum member KudoZ notifications, for example, now leave our servers within a minute.

Next, we began working on speeding up emails to non-platinum members. Here are sample statistics from Jan 30:

ProZ.com email alerts: Minutes elapsed before delivery

Under 1 min: 51812 (49.7%) (49.7%)

Under 5 min: 25156 (24.1%) (73.8%)

Under 15 min: 22875 (21.9%) (95.7%)

So around 50% of bulk email notifications spend less than 1 minute on the queue, and 95% are delivered in less than 15 minutes.

We are continuing to tune. The goal, as we stated in November, is to have no email alert stay on our servers for more than 5 minutes.

There are some side effects. Your inbox filters may have been affected. Also, as a result of a new batch mail approach, some ISPs mistakenly block ProZ.com email notifications as spam. A number of users are affected; for more information, check this thread.

Yes, now it's really better! Jan 31, 2003

Not so good though as it was this time last year but still better. Thanks a lot!

Hope you will realize your goal (to have no email alert stay on your servers for more than 5 minutes) pretty soon.

Good luck!
